ABOUT
The Wood family’s love of Devons started with William Deane Wood (grandfather of Ashwood Devons owner, Malcolm Wood) whose very successful Woodbong Stud was located between Stroud Road and Wards River in New South Wales. William Deane Wood had many successes showing his cattle.
Ashwood Devons was started by Malcolm in the early 1990s at his farm in Stroud Road. Ashwood Devons, too, went on to be very successful at shows both in live exhibits and carcase competitions.
The Stroud Road farm was sold in 2004 and Malcolm took some time away from farming to regroup. He bought the Bulahdelah property in 2006 and after spending some time (and a lot of hard work) getting the farm into shape, Malcolm started Ashwood Devons again in 2009 with the purchase of 17 poll heifers in calf from the Bongalabi stud at Lake Bathurst, near Goulburn in New South Wales.
He has since extended that with purchases of both horned and polled stock from Barnstaple, Spongo and Gundooee, and last year purchased poll bull Gowan Ross Dogmatic to round out his starter herd.
After joining the Devons at Home 2010 tour of south west England, Malcolm also bought semen from Stonegrove High ‘n’ Mighty, a wonderful poll bull which achieved a second place in his class, and first place in Group of 3 at the Royal Cornwall Show 2010. We are very much looking forward to the first progeny from both Dogmatic and High ‘n’ Mighty.
